(內容由詩歌節組委會提供)The 24-Hour Global Poetry Reading for World Poetry Day Concludes Successfully[March 22, 2026] — To celebrate World Poetry Day, a 24-hour global poetry reading event spanning languages and borders was successfully held from March 21 to March 22. Jointly initiated by the “Moon Theater” Poetry Marathon in Washington, D.C., and the “Arte Vivo” Arts Festival in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, the event attracted widespread participation from poets around the world.World Poetry Day was established by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1999, with the aim of promoting poetry as one of humanity’s purest forms of artistic expression and fostering the exchange of linguistic and cultural diversity. The event commenced at midnight on March 21 and continued through midnight on March 22. Poets across the globe participated via online platforms, taking turns in a relay-style reading that transcended time zones, collectively creating a grand celebration of poetry. In the opening session, Festival Director Rei Berroa stated that this year’s theme, “The Beauty of Justice,” calls on poets worldwide to respond to the times through poetry, safeguarding justice, dignity, and hope amid turbulence and uncertainty. He emphasized that poetry is not only an expression of beauty but also a force that connects humanity and heals the world, enabling people to encounter one another even in the most difficult moments.According to the organizers, this year’s event saw a total of 475 participators, with 1,083 poems read—marking a significant increase in scale compared to previous years and demonstrating its expanding international influence. Poets from Africa, Asia, Oceania, Europe, and the Americas took part, making it a truly global poetry relay.Multilingual expression was one of the highlights of the event. A rich convergence of languages and cultures from the Arab world, India, and Africa was presented, while Indigenous poetry from the Americas also held a prominent place. Notably, Mayan poets from Guatemala participated in multiple native languages, further underscoring the cultural diversity and inclusive of poetry. In the closing remarks, Festival Director Fernando Cabrera described the past 24-hour poetry relay not only as an artistic endeavour but also as a “cultural vigil.” He noted that over the course of 1,440 minutes of continuous readings, poets around the world connected through language and emotion, transforming poetry into a shared language that transcends borders. The organizers emphasized that the success of this event stems from the collective participation and support of poets worldwide. It also marks the steady growth of the World Poetry Day Poetry Festival over the past five years, as it continues to evolve into an internationally influential cultural platform. Looking ahead, the initiative will continue to amplify global poetic voices, bringing together more participants and ensuring that poetry resonates across the world.Note:Content provided by the Poetry Festival Organizing Committee)本屆大洋洲詩人團隊成員共有十五名詩人出席,名單如下:A total of fifteen poets from the Oceania delegation participated in this year’s event.
