My dad is also inflicted with cancer and has just passed first anniversary after surgery. we are hopefull that he will beat the cancer. he was diagonosed here in the states, but we decided to do surgery in Shanghai. I think we did the right thing, judging from the result. but I miss him a lot and have lost the opportunity to take care of him personally. for families of cancer patient, life is forever changed at the moment of diagnosis. it is incredibly frustrating to learn about how powerless and helpless our medical system is with regard to cancer treatment.

in many ways, we have lost war on cancer, despite the fact that every year billions of dollars are spent on cancer research. there was a good article in Fortune magzine a couple of months ago on war on cancer, and it is incredibly frustrating to learn how ineffective the system is.

清明节的时候我也在安慰我的一个好朋友，是她的妈妈去世一周年的忌日，也是肺癌。你叙述的父亲被疼痛折磨的情形和她的妈妈简直就是一样的。目前国内的一些治疗理念和国外还有差距，对于癌症病人承受的疼痛处理得很少，所以病人和家属就更痛苦些。我的朋友也是通过书写来宣泄情绪，写的很成功，还被报纸编辑看中了。

每次看到这样的文字心都因为对那种生死离别的恐惧感而揪成了一团。生活中的一些痛苦是注定由每一些人自己来承受的，希望仁慈的上帝能够体恤怜悯我们。
