SEC bans short-selling

Agency puts temporary halt to trading practice that 'threatens investors and capital markets' for 799 financial companies.

On Thursday, Britain's Financial Services Authority also temporarily banned short-selling for financial companies. The SEC said it is consulting the FSA in the matter.

Not necessary, when gov come in, they normally get a good deal, like HK gov did at 1998. they earned big.

same here, gov will negotiate a good discount price for the CDS. Then they can sell it back after market stabilize and up.

gov can act as a special buffer for irrational events...

日本02年也赚了据说，可是后来就说养老金一代不如一代了。。。借口是给中国的低息贷款太多啥的。

金融问题老有，不过在北海道G7上，美国给大伙说了，俺们这就马上恢复过来，没啥大问题。。。stiglitz大爷说这造成了mistrust....

过去美国靠的是脱离金子，搞浮动汇率，战争债就没了。70末-80年代，美国是逼迫日元升值 当然美国国内也大开杀戒了 ----这个人被称为美国传奇英雄。格老人家说90年代的美国托了他的福。现在是战争化了多少没人知道（反正也不重要了，反正还在化），坏账多少也没人知道（还有用t-bill换取toxic的bonds合适么？我也不知道），安然引发的财务（Andersen公司）改革也死翘翘了，金融界发明的那些产品风险难以评估。。。。

不过，现在大家是一根绳上的，死了谁其他人也好过不了，但是救急不救穷啊。长远来看，基本问题不解决，美国现在这样预支消费，预支时间的模式很难长久。。。句号。
